The return flow of Eid holidaymakers is already visible with a gradual increase in vehicle volume. We urge the public to plan their journeys well and take advantage of existing policies so that travel can be conducted in stages,” Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) stated that the return flow from the Eid al-Fitr holiday is beginning to show a gradual increase towards Jakarta. Spokesperson for the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Ketupat 2026, Commissioner of Police Marupa Sagala, predicted that the peak return flow will occur in two phases, namely on 24 March 2026 and 28-29 March 2026. “The return flow is already visible with a gradual increase in vehicle volume. We urge the public to plan their journeys well and take advantage of existing policies so that travel can be conducted in stages,” said Commissioner Pol. Marupa in a statement in Jakarta on Monday. Based on traffic volume data on Sunday (22/3) from 06.00 WIB to 22.00 WIB, vehicles entering Jakarta were recorded at 122,994, down 3.66 percent compared to normal conditions, but up 3.73 percent compared to the previous year’s Eid period. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles exiting Jakarta through the four main toll gates reached 168,159, up 65.79 percent compared to normal volume and increasing 2.06 percent compared to Eid in 2025. To support the smooth flow of holiday travel and returns, Polri is optimising monitoring through CCTV, real-time traffic counting, and cross-sector coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja. Marupa emphasised that security and services will continue to be optimised to ensure the implementation of the holiday flow and return runs safely, orderly, and smoothly. He stated that traffic flow is now monitored as starting to ease and has returned to normal in both directions, following the cessation of the one-way traffic engineering system based on real-time field evaluations. As a precautionary measure, Polri along with relevant stakeholders will implement situational traffic engineering, including contraflow and one-way systems locally and nationally. “The plan for implementing the national one-way system is scheduled to start on 24 March 2026 from KM 414 to KM 70,” he said. In addition, he mentioned that the public can also utilise alternative routes through the Jakarta-Cikampek II South Toll Road to avoid congestion on the main route, which in certain segments can be used for free during Operation Ketupat 2026.
