Polri Praises Riau Regional Police's Go Sprint Go Green Running Initiative; Other Regional Police Have Followed Suit
Mabes Polri has praised a creative breakthrough in a running race event initiated by the Riau Regional Police. The innovation is seen as changing patterns of public activity during Ramadan to be more positive and productive.
The Public Relations Division Head of Polri, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, described the initiative proposed by the Riau Police Chief as an extraordinary step worthy of emulation.
‘This is an extraordinary thing and one that we should appreciate, and colleagues from other regional police have already followed suit,’ said Johnny Isir in Pekanbaru on Tuesday night, 3 March 2026.
According to him, the Go Sprint Go Green running event initiated by the Riau Regional Police has successfully redirected public energy from activities with potential negative outcomes to something positive.
One concrete impact felt is the reduction of activities such as Sahur on the Road, which often triggers public order disturbances. Inspector General Johnny noted that the success of this model has even begun to be followed by regional police forces in other areas.
‘The National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) values the simple yet impactful initiatives that bring joy to the community and deepen serenity during the fasting month,’ said Inspector General Johnny.
The general, a graduate of Akpol class of 1996, reiterates Mabes Polri’s full support for activities that offer direct benefits to residents. He hopes such events will nurture future sprinting talents.
‘Indeed, Polri will continue to support any positive activities in this holy month. We pray that such events can give rise to future sprinting talents,’ he added.
Philosophy of Go Sprint Go Green
Meanwhile, the Riau Police Chief, Inspector General Herry Heryawan, said the running event with the theme ‘Go Sprint, Go Green’ blends sports talent development with a spirit of environmental preservation.
‘Go Sprint Go Green is not merely a sport; we want young people to cultivate the spirit of protecting and preserving the environment as acts of charity in this holy month,’ said Irjen Hery.
The running event is held every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evening. On Tuesday night (3 March) the event was lively, attracting hundreds of participants from children, teenagers, to mothers.
