Makassar — The National Police (Polri) says it continues to conduct evaluations, including the use of firearms by officers, following the case of a suspected shooting of a teenager in Makassar by a Panakkukang Sector police officer with the initials Iptu N. The victim, Bertrand Eka Prasetyo (18), died after a gunshot from Iptu N’s pistol struck him on Toddopuli Raya Street, Rappocini District, Makassar, on Sunday (1 March 2026) at around 07:00 WITA.

‘The evaluation process is ongoing at all times. Every step in operational activities and police training involves analysis and evaluation, whether before, during the planning, analysing and evaluating prior program activities, during implementation, up to post-event,’ said Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, spokesman for the Polri’s Public Relations Division (Karopenmas), at the Bareskrim building in Jakarta, on Thursday (5 February 2026).

He said that in the evaluation process there is supervisory function at various levels to ensure the evaluation runs. Earlier reports stated that a teenager was allegedly shot by Panakkukang Sector officer Iptu N on Toddopuli Raya, Rappocini, Makassar, on Sunday (1 March 2026) at around 07:00 WITA.

Makassar City Police Chief (Kapolrestabes Makassar) Kombes Pol. Arya Perdana claimed Iptu N did not intentionally shoot the victim Bertrand Eka Prasetyo (18). He explained that initially, even though unintentionally, he was trying to disperse a game of toy weapons.

‘The action we took was to immediately secure Iptu N, conduct an on-the-spot investigation that day, and seize his weapon,’ he said.
