Polri guarantees constitutional rights of workers on May Day 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has reaffirmed its commitment to guaranteeing the constitutional rights of workers in expressing their opinions during the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 celebrations on Friday.
Polri’s Head of Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that freedom of expression in public is a right of citizens guaranteed by the constitution and must be respected.
“Polri guarantees the constitutional rights of workers to express opinions safely, orderly, and with dignity. We understand that expressing aspirations is part of human rights that must be protected,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
In securing the May Day momentum, he said, police ranks prioritise a humane approach and respect for human rights.
He emphasised that the presence of police personnel in the field is not to limit democratic space, but to ensure activities run conducive and participants feel safe.
“We want fellow workers expressing aspirations to feel the presence of Polri as protectors, guardians, and public servants. Therefore, all our personnel are directed to prioritise persuasive, professional, and humane attitudes,” he said.
In addition, he continued, Polri continues to coordinate with related parties to regulate traffic flow, secure mass gathering points, and keep public activities running during the May Day action.
Furthermore, Polri also urges all action participants to express their aspirations peacefully and orderly, as well as to maintain public facilities so that the activities run safely and smoothly.
