Polri Cracks Down on Distributor of 9 Tonnes of Expired Frozen Meat Ahead of Lebaran
Mobile Detective Unit (Resmob) of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has acted against the circulation of nine tonnes of expired imported frozen meat. The meat is believed to be destined for sale in traditional markets ahead of the Lebaran celebrations.
βSat Resmob Bareskrim has taken action against a person distributing expired imported frozen meat to traditional markets for consumption by people who will be observing Lebaran,β said Police Senior Commissioner Teuku Arsya Khadafi, head of Resmob Bareskrim Polri, in Jakarta on Sunday (8/3), according to Antara.
Khadafi said they had secured three trucks carrying the expired meat. The evidence and the suspects have been brought to Bareskrim for statements and further investigation.
Khadafi could not provide further details of the case at this stage. The police are still questioning the suspects.
For the next steps, investigators will probe the possibility of other distribution networks involved in the circulation of the expired meat.
Polri is also part of the Saber Bersih (Saber) Task Force on Price, Security, and Quality of Food, which actively monitors the availability and safety of food ahead of National Religious Holidays (HBKN). These holidays include Imlek, Ramadan, Nyepi, and Eid al-Fitr, which in 2026 are celebrated in quick succession.
