Police yet to name suspect in Transjakarta Corridor 13 incident
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has not yet named a suspect in connection with the accident involving Transjakarta operator buses BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Puri Beta-Petukangan) along the Swadarma route towards Cipulir, South Jakarta, on Monday (23/2).
“We have not detained anyone yet, but we have conducted examinations,” said Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, Senior Commissioner Ojo Ruslani, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said all 24 injured victims had returned to their respective homes. He also corrected earlier information that stated a victim had suffered a bone fracture, clarifying the injury was merely a sprain.
However, he declined to comment on the Transjakarta driver’s working hours, which were alleged to have exceeded the permitted limit.
“That’s more a matter for their superiors. We are handling the accident itself,” said Ojo.
“Actually, Transjakarta’s management is already quite well-organised. This was human error, nothing else. Perhaps the driver didn’t get enough sleep due to fasting and so forth, which led to the bus travelling against traffic, causing the accident that resulted in 23 victims,” said Pramono in the North Jakarta area on Monday (23/2).
He also noted that the driver had been operating bus BMP 220263 after working for two consecutive days.
The driver then became drowsy and was allegedly unable to control the steering, causing the bus to enter the opposing lane and collide with bus BMYS 17100.
Of the total 23 victims, Pramono said two were rushed to Bakti Asih Hospital and 21 were taken to Sari Asih Hospital.
“And everyone should know that all victims’ costs are fully covered by Transjakarta,” said Pramono.
