Police vow to arrest intimidators

JAKARTA (JP): The police said yesterday that they are waging
war against people paid by developers to intimidate landowners.
They have named the operation Kilat Jaya.

The head of the city police command control, Col. Muhantojo,
said that the basic goal of the operation is to apprehend people
who disturb peace and order in Jakarta.

"Those who violate the laws and disturb other people include
groups or individuals hired by developers to threaten landowners
to sell their property to developers," Muhantojo said.

He was commenting to the complaints voiced by residents to
city council about hoodlums who intimated landowners to sell
their land to developers.

The residents of Jl. Kebon Sirih Ujung, Central Jakarta have
complained to the city council about being terrorized, possibly
by hoodlums hired by a private company.

Police have been conducting an anti-crime campaign in an
attempt to reduce the crime rate in the city.

The police department has promised to continue in its efforts
to clean the capital of drug dealers, gamblers, hoodlums,
prostitutes and other criminals. (yns)
