Police officers from Tambora District Police Station, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have installed warning banners advising residents and hikers not to conduct activities within a 3-10 kilometre radius of Mount Tambora. This follows an increase in Mount Tambora’s activity status from normal to alert level.

Tambora District Police Chief Iptu Suhadak stated that the installation of warning banners was based on directives from Bima Police Chief AKBP M. Anton Bhayangkara Gaisar and represents a precautionary measure by police regarding the increased activity of Mount Tambora.

“Through this warning, we urge residents and hikers not to conduct activities within the 3 to 10 kilometre range,” he said. Suhadak indicated that the installation of warning banners around Mount Tambora’s vicinity began on Saturday 14 March 2026, and involved officers from Tambora National Park (TNGT).

“Together with the Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimcam) of Tambora District, we continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and not conduct activities near the mountain slopes within the designated radius,” Suhadak stated.

Additionally, Tambora District Police will increase patrol intensity to prevent irresponsible individuals or parties from exploiting the situation to commit criminal acts.

“This is a measure to ensure the jurisdiction of Tambora District Police remains secure, safe and conducive. Because to date, Mount Tambora’s status remains at level II (alert),” he concluded.

Mount Tambora’s activity status was officially upgraded from normal to alert on 10 March 2026, due to a surge in deep volcanic earthquakes indicating magmatic dynamics. The upgrade from level I to level II was based on a special report issued by the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

“Mount Tambora, administratively located in Dompu and Bima Districts, NTB, shows an increase in volcanic activity,” said the Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria.
