Jakarta — The Metro Jaya Regional Police (PMJ) has urged Jakarta residents not to form convoys during Takbiran night. PMJ Traffic Director, Senior Commissioner Pol Komarudin, suggested that residents celebrate in their respective neighbourhoods to maintain security and traffic flow in the capital.

Security for Takbiran night is a key focus following the mudik (homecoming) phase of Operation Ketupat. Authorities are preparing traffic rerouting and security at various crowded spots, including the Sudirman-Thamrin area and Bundaran HI roundabout.

“On this occasion, we urge the people of the capital to conduct Takbiran night without convoys, by enlivening mosques in their surrounding areas or their own neighbourhoods. We hope no convoy activities take place,” said Komarudin at the Bundaran HI complex in Jakarta, early Friday (20/3/2026) WIB.

He explained that a car-free night event is being held on the Sudirman-Thamrin stretch, with road closures from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. WIB. Options for extending the time are prepared based on on-the-ground dynamics. A total of 557 personnel are on standby to anticipate congestion and manage vehicle and public movement during the event.

“We will enter the next phase, namely securing Takbiran night activities, which Insha Allah will take place tonight,” said Komarudin.

Security also covers the performance of Eid al-Fitr prayers and subsequent public activities. Police are preparing layered stages from Takbiran night, the holiday, to return flows and travel to tourist destinations.

Officers are deployed at several points, including the Istiqlal Mosque area, which is likely to be crowded with worshippers. Parking arrangements are a priority to prevent traffic disruptions from illegal parking.

“We also urge people not to follow directions often given by illegal parking attendants, who usually only cause blockages or problems on the roads. We will deploy our officers; follow the instructions and directions of our officers in the field,” said Komarudin.

National Police Traffic Corps Chief, Inspector General Pol Agus Suryonugroho, emphasised readiness for security across all regions. Operation Ketupat encompasses traffic security, places of worship, and public activity centres during Idul Fitri.

Agus stated that traffic conditions are generally under control. Rerouting measures such as open-close, diversions, and contraflow are applied to maintain smooth vehicle flow.

“So everything is ready because security plans have indeed been made in cities and across Indonesia. Operation Ketupat, besides in the traffic sector, securing mudik and return flows, the state is present, the National Police is present to guarantee a sense of security during the holy month of Ramadan, including during Idul Fitri and even yesterday during the Nyepi holiday,” explained the two-star general.

Agus said the security and public order situation remains conducive without notable incidents. Activities at transport hubs such as ports, terminals, airports, and stations are also monitored as calm.

Operation Ketupat continues with involvement from the TNI, National Police, and various related agencies across regions. This synergy is expected to keep the Lebaran atmosphere safe, orderly, and comfortable for the public.
