Police Uncover Identity of Firefighter Harasser; Turns Out This is His Job
Police have uncovered the identity of the individual who harassed a Depok firefighter, Khairul Umam. This was revealed by the Head of the Central Police Audit, Kombes Pol Manang Soebeti.
This came after Umam claimed to have received threats via WhatsApp after uploading a video criticising the case of violence committed by a Brimob officer from the Maluku Police, Bripda Masias Victoria Siahaya, which resulted in the death of a student at MTs Negeri in Tual, Maluku, Arianto Tawakkal (14).
In a statement, Kombes Manang dismissed allegations that police officers were behind the harassment. He emphasised that the threatening messages were only sent by one person.
“How could the firefighter, who made content about helmets, be harassed? It was just one person sending the WhatsApp messages. If we reveal who that person is, it will be clear, and people will stop accusing the police of harassment,” said Kombes Manang through his personal Instagram account @manangsoebeti_official on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
“I will reveal the data,” he continued before presenting the identity of the alleged perpetrator.
According to the data, the alleged perpetrator of the firefighter harassment has the initials WG and is from Pamanukan District, Subang Regency, West Java.
In addition, Kombes Manang also revealed several personal details of the harasser, such as his NIK (National Identity Number), date of birth, and occupation as a daily wage labourer.
Previously, it was reported that this case stemmed from public attention on the death of Arianto Tawakkal, who died after being hit by a tactical helmet wielded by a Brimob officer from the Maluku Police, Bripda Masias Victoria Siahaya.
This incident sparked reactions on social media, including from Khairul Umam, who uploaded a video containing criticism regarding the function of helmets.
In the video uploaded through his personal Instagram account, Umam criticised the use of helmets, which he said should be used to protect the head, not to injure people. The video then went viral.
“I want to tell you, this is called a helmet. Its purpose is to protect the head, not to destroy people’s heads. They say that during Ramadan, demons are imprisoned. Why are there still people like this?” said Umam through his personal Instagram account @xkhairulumam.
Shortly after the upload, Umam claimed to have received threatening messages via WhatsApp from an unknown number. In the screenshot shared on Instagram, the sender of the message mentioned Khairul’s home address and the names of both of his parents.
