Indonesia’s Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, has assured that law enforcement will take stern action against civil organisations or NGOs that forcibly demand holiday allowances, known locally as THR. Prasetyo stated that the police would first examine complaints and reports submitted before taking enforcement measures.

“I will first verify. If there is indeed evidence of a violation, the police will certainly take appropriate enforcement steps,” said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

In a separate statement, the Head of the Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, issued a public appeal regarding individuals using the names of civil organisations to conduct extortion, illegal levies, or actions that harm the business community, particularly ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. He urged businesses that feel aggrieved not to hesitate in reporting to police.

“Please contact the emergency number 110, or the hotline 110, and report the matter,” said Johnny at a police muster parade in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Isir, reports can also be submitted in writing to police. Subsequently, law enforcement will follow up on the report by issuing warnings to the accused individuals.

Isir stated that the police are prepared to take stern action against perpetrators of extortion operating under the guise of civil organisations that are causing distress to the business community, particularly if the activity escalates to racketeering. Criminal proceedings will be applied if the extortionists begin operating in a structured manner.

“If this becomes structured and is causing significant distress, it is not ruled out that enforcement measures will be taken,” he said. “But that would be a last resort,” he added.
