Police to Install ETLE Cameras at Railway Crossings in High-Risk Areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director of Law Enforcement at the National Traffic Corps of the Indonesian Police, Brigadier General Faizal, stated that his side will install electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) cameras or electronic ticketing systems on railway crossing routes, particularly in areas prone to violations.
This is being done to prevent motor vehicle drivers from forcing their way across railway tracks, even when the signs already instruct drivers to stop.
“Because this is definitely preceded by a violation. Any accident is definitely preceded by a violation,” said Faizal during a discussion event on the Bekasi Timur train accident at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
He stated that safety is a matter that must be prioritised.
Faizal said the police will also map railway crossings with high activity, both in terms of train journey volume and crossing vehicles.
For now, according to him, the police will also assist in guarding the high-risk crossings.
Later, there will be Bhabinkamtibmas officers or police members who will help guard the railway crossings during vulnerable hours.
“We will later strive to ensure that our society, when crossing or using train facilities, can also be orderly,” he said.
Faizal also hopes that tragedies like the Bekasi Timur station train accident will not recur, because the police are also unhappy if they always have to handle accident cases, especially those causing fatalities.
