Police to Increase Patrols at Abandoned Homes During 2026 Eid Holiday Exodus
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) will intensify patrols in several high-risk areas during the Eid holiday period, including empty homes left by residents returning to their hometowns.
This measure forms part of the security operations under Operation Ketupat 2026. “Empty homes must not become a security vulnerability. We must ensure that people returning from their holiday do not find unwanted incidents,” said Irjen Pol. Johnny Eddizon Isir, Head of Polri’s Public Relations Division, while leading a preparedness roll call for the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Ketupat 2026 at Polri Public Relations Field in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
He emphasised that abandoned homes left by holiday travellers should not become a gap through which security threats emerge. “Various facilities at police stations, whether at the precinct or district level, can be utilised by the public. For example, if someone is going on holiday, they can leave their vehicle in safekeeping,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of raising public awareness about home security measures before leaving. This includes ensuring electrical installations are in safe condition and checking for potential fire risks, particularly given unpredictable weather conditions.
Isir stated that the Eid holiday exodus has religious, social, and security dimensions, requiring all parties to work together to maintain a conducive situation. He further reminded the public to use Polri’s 24-hour toll-free call centre service 110, which can be accessed at any time for reporting security disturbances and emergency conditions during the holiday period.
“If the public requires any services related to their security and safety, please utilise the 110 service,” he concluded. Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 13 to 25 March 2026.
