Police to have temporary office at Granadha soon
JAKARTA (JP): The offices of Jakarta's traffic police will move to the Granadha building next month in connection with beginning of the barter agreement between the National Police and a private company
Other divisions, such as the crime investigation squad, the rapid reaction force, information services, the personnel directorate and the internal affairs division, will also eventually occupy temporary offices at the Granadha or Graha Purna Yudha building, reliable sources told The Jakarta Post yesterday.
The city police will use the neighboring Granadha building until the new headquarters is constructed by the private company as required in the barter deal.
It is unknown when the construction of the new city police headquarters will be completed.
When asked for confirmation, City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said that he had no idea about the schedule of the move.
"I'm not well informed about the plan to move," Iman said.
The spokesman also said that he did not know how long the police would occupy the Granadha building, how much the rental of the building will be or who would pay the rent.
The sources said the temporary move to Granadha from 33-year- old Jakarta Police Headquarters on Jl. Gatot Subroto will be completed next year.
The multi-billion rupiah land barter agreement between the National Police Headquarters and PT Mandala Pratama Permai (MPP), was signed on Aug. 15 this year.
The company is co-owned by Hutomo Mandala Putra, the youngest son of President Soeharto.
Under the agreement, MPP will take 6.5 hectares of the total 14.5 hectares of the Jakarta Police Headquarters tract to build a business center, hotel, apartments, shopping centers and other facilities.
In return, the city police will get a new 24-story office complete with up-to-date equipment on the remaining plot. The company will also provide the city police with 50 hectares of land in Serpong in Tangerang for a housing complex for police families.
According to the site plan, the site where the Jakarta Police Headquarters now stands is earmarked for the establishment of government offices only.
Therefore, the developer is obliged to ask city administration to change the site plan before starting its project.
It remains unknown whether the company has met the city administration prerequisite of submitting the necessary documents to process its project proposal.
The documents include the approval letter of the barter agreement from the Ministry of Finance and details of future projects to be built by the company on the land.
The whole project, including land compensation for the police, cost MPP Rp 1.1 trillion (US$500 million).
The Jakarta Police Headquarters is located in a strategic location, just south of the Semanggi cloverleaf intersection, facing onto both Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and Jl. Gatot Subroto.
Currently, prices of land in the Jakarta golden triangle could reach around Rp 4 million (US$1,758) per square meter. (bsr)
