Police to Examine Hotel CCTV in Connection with UTBK Cheating at Undip
Police will examine surveillance footage (CCTV) from a hotel in connection with the discovery of a female participant in the Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) for the National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT) 2026 at Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang, Central Java. This is because the hotel in Semarang was the location where the woman, initialled M, met the person who provided her with the device. It was previously reported that the exam participant was caught carrying an electronic aid installed in her ear before entering the examination room at Undip’s Tembalang Campus on Tuesday (21/4). The campus authorities have handed the participant over to the police, resulting in counselling due to the suspected cheating discovered before entering the examination room. From police questioning, M obtained the aid from someone at a hotel in Semarang. “Yes, all information obtained from the reporter is material for investigation to deepen the case so that it can be uncovered,” said Artanto at Central Java Police Headquarters, South Semarang, on Friday (24/4), quoted from detikJateng. He was responding to questions about the police investigation into the CCTV to identify the suspected perpetrator assisting the UTBK cheating participant. “Of course, the campus side has reported the matter to the police. And we will follow up with an investigation. And alhamdulillah, the fact is that the perpetrator or the one who committed the cheating in this UTBK has not yet taken the exam,” he said in response to questions about deepening the network and suppliers of the UTBK cheating device. It was previously reported that a UTBK participant at Undip was caught cheating. The suspected perpetrator, M, inserted the device obtained from a person currently being pursued by police into her ear while about to take the national university entrance exam. “[The device was obtained] From someone. They met at a hotel in Semarang when she was staying there, but everything was closed, she said, she [M] didn’t know his face,” said Tembalang Police Sector Chief, Kompol Kristiyastuti Handayani, on Wednesday (22/4). It is suspected that M learned about the device from a friend or social media. However, Kristiyastuti—familiarly called Tyas—emphasised that there was no money transaction when M met the device provider. The UTBK participant who attempted to cheat was then given counselling by the police. Since she had not yet taken the exam, the participant was returned to her parents. “The person in question was given counselling and a statement not to repeat the act,” said Tyas.
