JAKARTA — Police are continuing investigations into the assault and robbery of a motorcyclist who claimed to be accosted by self-proclaimed debt collectors on Jalan Daan Mogot, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

“The suspects have not yet been apprehended. We are still attempting to investigate and identify the perpetrators,” said Kalideres Police Commander Kompol Rihold Sihotang when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Rihold disclosed that one of the primary obstacles in tracking down the perpetrators is the absence of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the scene. According to him, the perpetrators deliberately exploited blind spots to carry out their crime.

“We have checked CCTV footage in the surrounding area, but nothing captured the incident. There is no camera at the location,” said Rihold.

A motorcyclist heading towards Tangerang fell victim to the attack in front of a tin can factory on Tuesday morning (3 March 2026) at approximately 05:10 Western Indonesia Time. In video footage shared by the Instagram account @warga.jakbar, a man can be seen crouching on the roadside, his clothes wet and soiled with black river mud.

The victim, who works as a security guard at BSI Cisoka in Tangerine, was forced to surrender his motorcycle and all his valuables to the gang of perpetrators.

According to the victim’s account, he was riding alone when he was suddenly cut off by four men on two motorcycles, one in front and one behind.

“I was riding when suddenly they overtook me, one in front, one behind. I almost fell. They yanked my ignition key,” the victim said in the video, quoted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

After forcibly stopping him, the gang claimed to be debt collectors and accused the victim of defaulting on his vehicle instalments for several months.

“They said I hadn’t paid for three months, but I just made my payment yesterday on the 28th,” he said.

The victim reported being interrogated, punched, and then pushed into the river alongside Jalan Daan Mogot.

“They kept questioning me. They immediately punched my stomach, threw me into the river, and pushed me in. I lost consciousness in the water,” he recounted.

Helpless after being thrown into the river, the victim could only watch as the perpetrators fled with his motorcycle and all his possessions.

“They took my motorcycle, my bag, my mobile phone, my wallet — everything. In my wallet were my ID card and employment cards. There was cash in my bag,” he explained.
