Police spokesmen meeting ends

JAKARTA (JP): National Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Nurfaizi
officially closed the five-day meeting of police spokesmen of 27
provincial police headquarters yesterday.

The 92 participants of the meeting discussed the roles and
function of police information offices in improving the force's
image.

Reading a statement from deputy chief of administrative
affairs Maj. Gen. Roesmanhadi, Nurfaizi said all police spokesmen
should be proactive in doing their jobs as information sources
for the public.

"Please clarify properly any misleading news which could
damage the police's image. All information given to the public
should be accurate to avoid misunderstanding and more problems,
especially prior to the May 29 general election," he said.

The yearly meeting was held at Graha Purna Wira on Jl.
Darmawangsa, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

The participants visited the Kompas daily and The Jakarta Post
editorial offices Thursday. (04)
