Police: Siren Sounded but Crossing Gate Had Not Closed When Truck Was Struck by Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train
Police have disclosed the moments leading up to a container truck being struck by a Soekarno-Hatta Airport train at a level crossing near Poris Station, Batuceper, Tangerang City. Before the collision, the railway crossing gate reportedly came down late.
“Based on initial accounts — still subject to further investigation — when we gathered statements, the siren had been activated by the operator as the train approached, but the barrier gate had not yet moved,” said Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari to reporters on Friday (20 February 2026).
Jauhari explained that when the train siren sounded, the container was already on the tracks. As a result, the collision between the train and the truck was unavoidable.
“So when the siren was activated, the container was already on the railway tracks. Only then did the barrier gate begin to move to close,” he said.
“By the time the truck cab had passed through, the container body was still on the crossing — given the considerable length of a container — so it was the body of the container itself that was struck,” he added.
Jauhari said his team is continuing a series of investigations into the accident. The evacuation of the train and the truck, which remained across the tracks, was still under way at the time of reporting.
“We will certainly pursue further investigation into any negligence and continue the legal process,” he explained.
