Police shut file on McDonald's boss

JAKARTA: Police said on Wednesday that they had closed the file on the Rp 40 billion corruption case implicating the American fast-food restaurant boss, Bambang Rachmadi, as they had failed to find any strong evidence to prove a violation.

"We cannot proceed with the case as we have found no violation in the case," said Adj. Sr. Comr. Anton Wahono, chief of the city corruption crime division.

Bambang was named last year by police as a key suspect in the graft, which allegedly occurred in 2000. He was accused of misusing Rp 40 billion in funds he borrowed from state-owned Jamsostek, which oversees the social security insurance scheme for workers.

He was summoned several times but failed to appear for police questioning as he was abroad.

Bambang is the president director of PT Ramako Gerbang Mas, which runs McDonald's Indonesia. --JP.
