Police shoot alleged drug dealer in Depok

JAKARTA (JP): Police shot an alleged drug dealer, who was a former member of the City Police Mobile Brigade squad, for resisting arrest in Depok yesterday.

The suspect, identified as Teguh, 27, was shot in the left leg. He was later taken to the police's violent crime section for questioning.

The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. on Jl. Leli I in Depok I. The area is believed to be a drug dealing center.

"We have watched his activities for quite some time. After obtaining information from nearby residents, we raided the house," said one of the police officers, who asked for anonymity.

The police confiscated one kilogram of marijuana as evidence.

"Currently, we're still trying to gain more information. Hopefully, we can get other suspects because we believe that he (Teguh) is a member of a huge, organized drug trafficking gang," the police added.

The city police detectives chief of general affairs, Lt. Col. Dikdik, confirmed the arrest. "Yes, we have captured an alleged drug dealer," he said.

Separately in West Jakarta, police captured on Wednesday two alleged killers of Saefudin, an SMEA Bhakti high school student, who died in a brawl five days ago.

The two suspects, identified as Sof, 17, and Sut, 19, were arrested after class at SMK Teknik high school in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta.

"They admitted to attacking Saefudin with a sickle, which they said they later hid somewhere in Tangerang. We're currently looking for the sickle as evidence," Capt. Eko Sampurno, head of Tanjung Duren Police subprecinct, said yesterday.

The two suspects were arrested in a joint operation between West Jakarta Police precinct and Tanjung Duren Police subprecinct.

"We're also trying to gain more information about the possibility of involvement by other students in this fatal brawl," Eko added.

In East Jakarta, a resident of Kampung Tengah, identified as Cahya, 28, fell victim to an armed robbery when four men broke into his house on Jl. Masjid Al-Bariah on Wednesday morning.

The robbers, armed with machetes and a gun, made away with some US$5,000 in cash, 70 grams of gold jewelry, a mobile phone, a Mazda sedan and a television set.

The robbers tied up Cahya with rope and sealed his mouth with tape. (edt)
