Police security heightened for Bambu Apus murder case
JAKARTA (JP): East Jakarta authorities will deploy more than 100 police and military servicemen to guard the trial of the suspected murderers of a woman and three children.
"Many security officers are ready to guard the court session," Mayor Sudarsono said while inspecting the East Jakarta District Court yesterday.
The mayor was accompanied by East Jakarta Military District Commander Lt. Col. Dody Sudarno and chief of the East Jakarta prosecutors' office Lukman Bachmid.
The East Jakarta District Court will try five suspects, including Philipus Kia Lanjar, his wife Suparmi, his sons Albertus and Lambertus and his nephew Clemence.
The five suspects will be tried separately, starting tomorrow, by three panels of judges, led by Judge Sunarto, Judge Tojib Matderis and Judge Farida Achmad.
The first panel will try Philipus Kia Lanjar, 44, the prime suspect of the multiple murder.
The second panel will try Philipus' wife, Suparmi, 41. The third panel will try Philipus' sons and nephew, Albertus, 15, Lambertus, 12, and Clemence, 13.
Head of the East Jakarta District Court Odjak Parulian Simandjuntak said that the court would handle the case as usual.
However, the security officers will tighten security at the court to prevent public anger getting out of hand, he said.
The security officers will frisk visitors and exchange their ID cards for visitor cards, he added.
Simandjuntak appealed to the public not to be emotional. "Trust the court process. Indonesia is state governed by the rule of law."
The killing of Rohadi's wife Ely Kusnaely and three children, Gilang M. Fauzi, Citra Utami and Rizky Wahyu Ramadhan in Bambu Apus on Oct. 2. sparked public anger resulting in Philipus' house being destroyed by a mob.
A reconstruction of the murder was done in December also under tight guard of more than 100 police and military servicemen. (29)
