Police in Cibatu quickly responded to community reports regarding stone-throwing actions targeting holidaymakers’ vehicles on the main route from Bandung to Tasikmalaya. The incident occurred in Sukamulya Village, Sukamerang Village, Kersamanah District, Garut Regency, on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

The perpetrator, who had been disturbing road users, is suspected to be a person with mental disorders (ODGJ). His reckless actions on the arterial route briefly caused concern among holidaymakers passing through northern Garut.

Cibatu Police Chief AKP Amirudin Latif confirmed that his team immediately deployed personnel to the scene shortly after receiving the report. Officers successfully secured a man strongly suspected to be the perpetrator.

“We received a report of suspected stone-throwing at holidaymakers’ vehicles. Cibatu Police members promptly moved to check and secure the situation. As a result, a man suspected to be the perpetrator was secured,” said Amirudin on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Based on initial examinations, the man is suspected of having mental disorders and originates from the Tasikmalaya area. To date, his full identity has not been confirmed.

To ensure appropriate handling and prevent similar incidents, the police took the man to the nearest community health centre before handing him over to the relevant authorities.

“This man, suspected to be ODGJ, will be handed over to the Sub-district Social Welfare Officer (TKSK) Kersamanah for further handling. Currently, he has received temporary medical treatment at the health centre,” he explained.

Although the stone-throwing action occurred, AKP Amirudin stated that to date, his side has not received official reports of vehicle damage from the holidaymakers. Cibatu Police continue to conduct data collection and increase patrol intensity at vulnerable points along the holiday route.

The police are committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of road users during the 2026 holiday rush period. Swift responses to every report of public order disturbances are the top priority for Cibatu Police.

“We urge the public to immediately report any incidents that could potentially disrupt security so that the police can follow up promptly,” Amirudin concluded.

For holidaymakers passing through the Bandung-Tasikmalaya route via Kersamanah, they are advised to remain vigilant and monitor current traffic conditions through official police channels or trusted media outlets. (H-3)
