Police Search of Wrong-Way Driver in Central Jakarta Uncovers Four Mismatched Number Plates and Sharp Weapons
Police conducted a search of a driver operating a vehicle the wrong way in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. Officers found four pairs of mismatched motor vehicle number plates (TNKB). Additionally, one toy firearm and two sharp weapons—a machete and a dagger—were discovered in the vehicle.
HM, 24, underwent a urine test with negative results. The driver was not alone whilst operating the vehicle, with one female passenger present.
“The test result came back negative,” stated Dirlantas of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (27 February).
The driver is now charged under Article 311 of Law No. 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ), Section 1, for deliberately operating a motor vehicle in a manner or condition endangering life or property.
“We will forward the case to the Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Metro Police,” added Komarudin.
Chronology of Wrong-Way Driver in Central Jakarta
Driver HM, 24, was driving recklessly in the Central Jakarta area on Wednesday (25 February). The vehicle in question was a Toyota Calya, travelling from Senen towards Pasar Baru. Patrolling officers observed unusual behaviour, with HM driving at high speed. Suspicious officers followed the vehicle, which turned into Koarmada RI Road before heading to Jalan Gunung Sahari 4.
HM subsequently entered Jalan Gunung Sahari 5, a one-way street towards Bungur. However, he drove the wrong way when entering Jalan Budi Utomo. Police also revealed that the number plates used did not conform to regulations.
