Police Say Perpetrator of Assault on Petrol Station Staff in East Jakarta Was Not an Official
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that the man with the initials JMH, who assaulted three petrol station employees in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, was not a member of the authorities, but a civilian who works as an entrepreneur.
“The perpetrator has been secured and it has been confirmed that he is not a member of the National Police,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Tuesday (24 February).
Budi said that the perpetrator, JMH, was arrested by a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi, on Tuesday.
The perpetrator was then taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further investigation.
“Currently, he is being processed by investigators from the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police. We ensure that the handling of the case is carried out professionally and transparently,” said Budi.
Budi said that preliminary investigations revealed that the number plate used by the perpetrator during the incident was a fake.
“The vehicle’s registration number was also not in accordance with its intended use,” he said.
Based on the photos received, the number plate used by the perpetrator was L-1-XD. Budi said that this number plate was not intended for the black Toyota Vellfire car used by the perpetrator.
“The barcode matching results did not match the vehicle’s registration number, so the filling could not be done according to the regulations,” said Budi.
Previously, three petrol station employees in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, were allegedly victims of an assault by a member of the authorities on Sunday (22 February) at around 10:00 PM.
Quoted from Antara, the three petrol station employees who were victims were Ahmad Khoirul Anam, who has worked for about five years as staff, Lukmanul Hakim, an operator who has only worked for six months after graduating from vocational high school, and Abud Mahmudin, an operator with about four years of service.
Khoirul Anam was slapped on the cheek, Lukman was punched in the right jaw, while Abud was punched under the eye and on the cheek near the mouth, causing his teeth to come loose.
The incident began when a customer came to fill up with Pertalite. When the barcode was scanned, the vehicle’s registration number was registered in the system, but the type of car used did not match the data shown.
According to standard operating procedures (SOP), the staff then refused to fill the Pertalite and offered an alternative solution. The customer was directed to fill up with Pertamax, which does not use the barcode system.
However, this refusal allegedly triggered the customer’s emotions. The incident then occurred and resulted in an alleged act of violence against the three petrol station employees.
One of the victims, Lukmanul Hakim, said that the official claimed that the car he was driving belonged to a general.
“He said, ‘Do you know that this is the barcode of a general? You don’t know this is a general’s barcode?’ He said that several times,” he said.
