A special needs school (SLB) teacher in Yogyakarta, identified as IN, who allegedly committed sexual abuse against a student has been formally named as a suspect. The suspect designation followed police securing three pieces of evidence.

Ipda Apri Sawitri, Head of the Women and Children’s Protection Unit (PPA) of Yogyakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Division, explained that the evidence obtained complies with the new regulations in Criminal Procedure Code Number 20 of 2025. Three pieces of evidence have been secured by investigators.

“In establishing IN as a suspect, investigators have three pieces of evidence: a psychological report, witness statements, and physical evidence,” Apri explained when contacted on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

“The minimum requirement for establishing a suspect is two pieces of evidence, but we already have three,” she added.

Following the formal suspect designation, police have also sent a summons letter to the teacher identified as IN. IN has not yet been detained, as the summons letter was only sent today.

“The suspect has been formally designated,” stated Head of the Criminal Investigation Division Kompol Riski Adrian when contacted today.

“We sent the summons letter today for Friday (13 March),” Riski stated.

It is known that IN was reported regarding alleged abuse of a student with special needs on Friday (20 February). IN was subsequently examined as a witness-respondent on Thursday (5 March) of last week.

Previously, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division Kompol Riski Adrian stated that his team had examined five witnesses in the investigation process since Friday (27 February). In addition to interviewing witnesses, they also examined the victim.

The examination conducted included a medical examination to determine whether there were any actions beyond sexual abuse that the victim experienced. Additionally, a psychological examination was also carried out on the victim. Riski targeted having both examination results completed this week.

“Yesterday we also had the victim undergo a medical examination. We want to know if there were any acts beyond indecent conduct,” Riski explained when contacted on Monday (2 March).
