Police have revealed the motive behind three suspects who stole fabric and hand-drawn batik from an exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC). The theft, reported to police in early February 2026, resulted in losses of up to Rp1.3 billion.

Tanah Abang Police Chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo disclosed that the three perpetrators stole the fabric and batik for economic reasons.

“The motive was economic,” said AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo on Monday (16/2).

However, this was not the suspects’ first offence. They had previously carried out a similar theft at the JCC some time earlier, causing losses of hundreds of millions of rupiah.

“This was the second time, including the most recent incident, and both occurred at JCC,” he said. “The first involved fabric materials as well, with losses of approximately Rp100 million.”

The suspects are said to be friends from the same region. They have been identified as Ledy Dwanty Naema Koen (LDNK), Krisantus Nomleni (KN), and Gelbeth Juliana Yunus (GJY). All three have been named suspects and charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code.

The case came to light following a report by a victim identified by the initial H, filed at the Tanah Abang Police Station on Wednesday (4/2).

“The victim reported a theft that was discovered on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, at approximately 08.00 Western Indonesian Time. The victim suffered losses amounting to Rp1.37 billion,” said Tanah Abang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Ikhsan Rangga in his statement on Monday (16/2).

Acting on the report, police immediately inspected the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage. The recordings showed the suspects using a Toyota Caya with registration plate F-1091-FBU.

Armed with this lead, police attempted to identify the vehicle used by the suspects and launched a pursuit.

On Thursday (12/2), police visited the residence of one of the suspects, a woman identified by the initials LDNK.

LDNK subsequently informed police of the whereabouts of the two other suspects, KN and GJY, who were at a foundation near her home.
