Police Reveal Cause of Death of BPK Member Haerul Saleh in House Fire
A member of the Financial Audit Board (BPK), Haerul Saleh, passed away following a fire incident at his home located in Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta. Police have revealed the cause of Haerul Saleh’s death.
“It is true that the cause of the victim’s death was the fire and not due to any other reason,” said the Head of Public Relations of the South Jakarta Metro Police Resort, AKP Joko Adi Wibowo, when contacted on Monday (11/5/2026).
He could not detail the cause of the fire, including the possibility of smoke inhalation. He stated that this falls under the purview of the medical authorities.
Joko said that at the time of the incident, Haerul Saleh was with three employees on the fourth floor of his home. They were in the midst of cleaning and renovating the house.
“On one floor, they were all active together. So they were cleaning, renovating or whatever. They were all doing activities together with Mr Haerul,” he said.
After the incident, Haerul Saleh’s body was taken to the nearest hospital. Joko mentioned that Haerul Saleh’s body was taken to Pasar Minggu Hospital.
Joko said that the police have also conducted a crime scene investigation and secured a liquid suspected to be the cause of the fire. Currently, the liquid is still being examined by the National Police Forensic Laboratory.
The fire incident occurred on Friday (8/5) at 07:53 WIB. Haerul Saleh died in the fire incident. The fire is suspected to have originated from an easily flammable chemical liquid.
A total of 12 fire engine units and 48 personnel were deployed to the location. The extinguishing process began at 08:07 WIB and the extinguishing operation was declared complete at 08:49 WIB.
A witness who is the house guard named Arpen said that Haerul shouted from the upper floor of the house. Arpen said Haerul shouted about the fire at that time.
“Mr shouted, shouted fire,” said Arpen at the location.
At that time, Arpen was at the location and then panicked. He informed the residents and called the fire department.
“We went up again and told the residents here, immediately called the fire department,” he explained.
Arpen had tried to go up to the upper floor to make sure no one was there. However, he said Haerul was still inside during the fire.
“We went up, it turned out Mr was still inside,” he added.
