Police Request Bekasi Environmental Agency Compensate Residents Affected by Garbage Truck Through Sumur Batu
BEKASI – Police have requested Bekasi City’s Environmental Services Agency (DLH) to provide compensation to residents affected by garbage trucks in Sumur Batu, Bantargebang District.
Bantargebang Police Chief Commissioner Sukadi stated that his office has coordinated with Bekasi City’s Environmental Services Agency to address the garbage truck controversy, which has prompted allegations of illegal levies (pungli).
“I have already communicated with the Head of Sanitation Services, Pak Andi Frengky, to provide compensation to residents in that area, so that we can resolve this matter,” said Sukadi when contacted by Kompas.com on Friday (27 February 2026).
“At minimum, by 10 March 2026, the main road that is being used should be repaired,” he added.
Sukadi explained that the controversy began when the primary access route to Sumur Batu Final Disposal Site (TPA) was blocked due to a landslide and refuse accumulation.
As a result, garbage collection trucks were unable to pass through that route.
“The solution was to use a residential road that could accommodate the trucks. However, the regulations stipulate that residential roads cannot be used by garbage trucks,” he said.
Initially, permission to use the residential road was granted for only one week, but was subsequently extended.
“The Environmental Services Agency came to Ibu Haji Gabok’s house to request assistance in using that road for approximately one week. It was approved for one week, then extended for another week, and has continued until now,” Sukadi explained.
The use of the residential road, he continued, has impacted residents’ activities, particularly food and takjil (iftar snack) vendors in the vicinity.
He stated that the garbage odour from the passing trucks was reported to be disrupting their business.
“But because the trucks are passing through and refuse is accumulating there, the smell is extraordinary, so eventually no one is selling anything,” he said.
