Police Reform Team Requests Polri to Revise 8 Perpol and 24 Perkap, Targeting Completion by 2029
The team we reported earlier consists of 10 books covering the overall policy reform, which must be truly implemented by the government as well as internally by Polri,” said Chairman of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Jimly stated that his side proposed a revision to the Law on Polri. This will be followed up by the government in the form of a presidential regulation (perpres) or presidential instruction (inpres) to instruct Polri and its ranks. “So we propose that a revision to the Law on Polri be established, which will then be followed up with a government regulation or perpres along with inpres that provides instructions to the Chief of Police and ranks to carry out the recommendations that have been agreed upon in this report,” he said. Furthermore, this reform also encompasses quite extensive internal improvements, including changes to 8 Police Regulations (Perpol) and 24 Chief of Police Regulations (Perkap). The entire process is targeted to be completed by 2029. “This includes the agenda for internal reform that must change 8 Perpol and 24 Perkap, which is hoped to be completed by 2029,” Jimly said. Jimly stated that the results of this commission’s work are not only oriented towards short-term improvements but are also designed as a medium-term reform roadmap that is sustainable for the Polri institution. “So what we have produced here is not only a short-term agenda but also up to the medium term until 2029,” he said.
