Police Reform Commission Submits Report, Yusril: Changes to the Police Law Will Follow
The Commission for Accelerating Police Reform met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Palace in Central Jakarta. The commission submitted its report to Prabowo.
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, and Immigration Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who is also a member of the commission, stated that they had completed the final report two months ago. The final results are documented in books of varying thicknesses.
“The final report from the work of the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform, which has been operating for several months, and approximately two months ago completed its tasks,” Yusril said upon arriving at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
“There is a 3,000-page report, a 300-page one, and some that are only 3 pages. So it can be read by the President in a concise manner, allowing him to understand well the proposals submitted by the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform to the President,” Yusril continued.
According to him, the report will first be read by Prabowo. Yusril and the team are awaiting directions from Prabowo.
“For the next steps, we will certainly wait for directions from the President after he reads the report and suggestions from the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform,” he said.
Yusril declined to explain the contents of the final report from the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform. However, Yusril stated that the recommendations reported by his commission will impact the Police Law.
“Yes, that’s correct, and there are quite substantial proposals submitted to the President. If approved, there will be implications for changes to the current Police Law,” he said.
Member of the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform, Mahfud MD, said the team’s report consists of 10 thick books. The contents include public voices up to the police’s own plans.
“There are 10 thick books, eight of which are verbatim accounts of public voices and the police’s own plans. Then, the two-page ones are summaries,” Mahfud said.
Mahfud has not yet explained the points in the team’s report. He is waiting for the report to be presented to Prabowo.
“Not yet known, later after with the President,” he said.
