Police raid nets 500 porn videos

JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta police seized around 500
pornographic video compact discs from street vendors in a raid at
Atrium Plaza, Senen on Monday.

Chief of the precinct's police detectives Maj. Budiono Sandi
told reporters that police detained 15 vendors, four of whom are
below 20 years old.

The pirated pornographic discs were displayed conspicuously by
the vendors, something that had enraged the public who were
concerned about the potential negative effect on local children
and youths.

The raid took place as a response to a call by State Minister
of Women's Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa that circulation of
the contraband discs be stopped.

The discs were price-tagged at between Rp 10,000 (US$1.4) and
Rp 15,000 per title, and more expensive if they featured famous
Indonesian artists. (10)
