Police Promise Continued Legal Proceedings Against North Toraja Narcotics Unit Chief and Officer
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Polri has promised that the legal process against the Chief of the Narcotics Unit and the Narcotics Officer of the North Toraja Police, who are suspected of being involved in a drug trafficking network, will continue.
The Head of the Polri’s Public Relations Division, Irjen Johnny Eddizon Isir, affirmed that the commitment to combat narcotics applies to everyone, including Polri members.
“We will continue to enforce the law strictly. This is Polri’s commitment, which has been repeatedly conveyed by the Chief of Police. Narcotics are a common enemy,” said Isir when met at the Police Academy (STIK) in Jakarta, Thursday (26/2/2026) evening.
“There will be no tolerance and no special treatment or impunity,” he emphasized.
Isir ensured that the legal process will continue even though the individuals in question have undergone special placement (patsus).
The Chief of the Narcotics Unit of the North Toraja Police, AKP Arifan Efendi, was arrested by the South Sulawesi Police for allegedly being involved in a drug trafficking network in the North Toraja area.
He was secured along with another member, identified as N, who serves as the Narcotics Officer.
Both are currently placed at the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters to undergo further examination by the Bidpropam (Professionalism and Internal Security Division).
The crackdown was the result of an investigation following the arrest of a suspect with the initials ET alias O in the jurisdiction of the Tana Toraja Police.
From the arrest, the police confiscated 100 grams of crystal methamphetamine (sabu).
Based on the results of the Examination Report (BAP) against ET, it was revealed that there was an alleged flow of funds to individuals within the North Toraja Police amounting to Rp 13 million per week since September 2025.
The funds are suspected to be regular payments to ensure that drug trafficking activities can proceed without obstruction.
The Chief of the North Toraja Police, AKBP Stephanus Luckyto, previously stated that AKP Arifan and N are still under investigation for alleged violations of the code of ethics and have not yet been designated as suspects.
