Police Predict Peak Lebaran Return Traffic for 2026: 25-26 March and 28-29 March
Jakarta — The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has predicted that the return traffic wave for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri (Lebaran 2026) will occur in two phases.
The first wave is expected to occur between 25 and 26 March 2026, whilst the second return traffic wave for Lebaran 2026 is forecast to happen between 28 and 29 March 2026.
“The peak return traffic is also predicted to occur between 25 and 26 March. The first wave and second wave are estimated for 28 to 29 March 2026,” said Deputy Chief of Police General Dedi Prasetyo when met at the Police Science Higher Education Building (PTIK) in Jakarta on Monday (2 March 2026).
“The first outbound wave is projected for 14 to 15 March 2026, followed by the second wave on 18 to 19 March 2026,” Dedi added.
Regarding the 2026 Lebaran celebration, Polri estimates the movement of 143.9 million people during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri holiday period.
This figure represents a decrease compared to the actual movement during Lebaran 2025, which reached 146.4 million people.
To secure the outbound and return traffic during Lebaran 2026, Polri is deploying Operation Ketupat from 13 March to 25 March 2026.
A total of 161,243 combined personnel will be deployed in this operation to secure transportation routes, crowded areas, and other vital infrastructure.
“There will be several traffic management and engineering activities on toll routes including odd-even regulations, one-way systems, contraflow, delaying systems, and buffer zones at ports,” Dedi explained.
