Police Open Complaint Desk for Victims of Marwah Catering Wedding Organiser Scam
East Jakarta Metropolitan Police have opened a complaint desk for victims allegedly scammed by wedding organiser Marwah Catering Service, which is suspected of defrauding couples in Bekasi, West Java.
Police Commissioner Andaru Rahutomo of Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Public Relations Sub-Unit stated the move is due to the expected rise in victims. The desk will also facilitate the calculation of total losses, urging affected parties to report immediately.
“Victims are welcome to report and will be fully assisted,” he told journalists on Tuesday (26 May).
He explained that several prospective couples have come forward after discovering the WO’s office had suddenly closed and the management was no longer at their residence.
Andaru said investigators are pursuing the WO owner, the suspect in the case, to complete the criminal elements of the case.
“At present, the team is working to locate the perpetrator while gathering evidence,” he added.
He also noted that six witnesses have been interviewed, and the venue provider will soon be questioned to determine any communication with the WO regarding event arrangements.
The case gained attention after a couple, Aldi (32) and Feny (32), went viral on social media when their wedding failed to take place at the Islamic Center in Bekasi on Saturday (23 May).
The couple claimed they paid Rp85.5 million for the wedding package, but no vendors arrived on the day. The promised vendors—including decorators, caterers, entertainers, photographers, and videographers—never arrived, forcing a simple nikah ceremony without the planned reception.
Victims reported to East Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Sunday (24 May) evening, stating they have digital communications, payment receipts, and written statements from the WO as evidence.
