Police must uphold the law
Police must uphold the law
From Media Indonesia
Because of mass vandalism, since the reform era up to now, incalculable assets have been destroyed, set on fire and many lives have been taken.
It seems the values of civilization have dramatically decreased in line with the discoloring of humanitarian feelings in this country which boasts Pancasila as its state philosophy.
Brutal actions by the masses taken against the parties considered guilty either as black magicians, criminals or traffic violators, have been depicted daily in the mass media.
Those considered guilty are tried by the masses, killed and their bodies burned without any mercy or sense of humanity. Even an accused person who had been detained by the police was forcefully taken and tried by the masses in front of the police office, and the whole event witnessed by the police.
Their miserable cries, begging for mercy and their screams caused by unbearable pain, as well as the policemen's loud cries failed to stop the masses from torturing the victims. They didn't even pay attention to the police warning shots.
Our country is based upon law. The police as enforcers of the law should force the people to abide by the law, and at the same time they should also protect people, including those who are suspected of committing crimes, from this sort of rough justice.
What if the masses are targeting the wrong person?
