Police Monitor Labour Action Outside Parliament, Emphasise Humanistic Security
Welcome to the fighters for workers’ aspirations. Polda Metro Jaya is ready to escort and serve fellow workers and community elements who convey their aspirations in an orderly and peaceful manner,” said the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).
Kombes Budi stated that the number of workers in the DPR/MPR RI area was around 100 people. They came from the Alliance for Agrarian Reform Movement, Indonesian Migrant Workers Union, and Central Youth Struggle.
He said that traffic flow in the DPR/MPR RI area until 11:00 WIB had not experienced any diversions. He stated that the situation was still monitored as safe and conducive.
“For the traffic situation in front of DPR/MPR RI, it is still smooth. Up to now, there has been no traffic diversion. Officers remain on standby to make adjustments if needed situationally,” he said.
He stated that representatives of the worker masses had also been facilitated to enter the DPR/MPR RI Building to convey their aspirations to DPR members. That meeting became a forum for workers to voice their demands on the occasion of the 2026 May Day commemoration.
Furthermore, Kombes Budi said that Polda Metro prioritises a humanistic service approach in escorting the expression of public opinion. He said that officers are present to ensure that community activities run safely, orderly, and still respect citizens’ rights to voice aspirations.
“We urge all action participants to maintain order, respect other road users, and follow the directions of officers in the field. Let us together keep Jakarta safe, comfortable, and conducive,” he said.
Dasco Absorbs Workers’ Aspirations
Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, received representatives from the worker masses during the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 celebration. Dasco stated that the government and DPR target completing the Manpower Law at the latest by the end of the year.
“Earlier, the government and DPR have agreed that at the latest by the end of this year, we will implement the Constitutional Court decision to form a new Manpower Law,” said Dasco at the DPR RI building, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5).
Nevertheless, Dasco said that how quickly the discussion proceeds depends on the workers. Because the initial material discussion is handed over to the workers.
“This is handed over to the workers to cook, so to speak. Well, so we wait, but in principle, the government has also requested that by the end of this year, the Manpower Law must be completed,” he said.
“Actually, whether it’s slow or fast with this law, it actually depends on the fellow workers,” he added.
Dasco also responded to the workers’ complaints regarding the outsourcing system. The government, he said, already has a task force for mitigating layoffs and workers’ welfare.
“Well, so regarding wage issues, regarding the outsourcing system, then issues regarding if there are those who want to lay off and so on, that can be brought there to cut the long chain,” he said.
