Police Manpower Desk Resolves Industrial Dispute for 131 Workers
The National Police’s Manpower Desk has mediated the settlement of an industrial relations dispute between PT Kerta Gaya Pusaka and 131 workers who had been laid off since 2021, securing the payment of their entitlements worth a total of IDR 10 billion. Head of the Police Manpower Desk, Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, stated that resolving the dispute is part of the police’s efforts to encourage the protection of workers’ rights while maintaining conducive industrial relations. “The Police Manpower Desk exists to ensure every manpower issue can be resolved fairly, professionally, and by prioritising dialogue. The resolution of the PT Kerta Gaya Pusaka case demonstrates that a collaborative and restorative justice approach can provide legal certainty while fulfilling workers’ rights that have long been delayed,” Irhamni said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. As a result of the mediation, PT Kerta Gaya Pusaka agreed to pay the severance compensation and back wages the workers had not received. According to him, mediation is an important instrument to accelerate the resolution of manpower disputes without going through lengthy processes, while also providing certainty for both workers and the company. Irhamni affirmed that the National Police will continue to support the creation of a healthy employment climate by strengthening mediation, legal protection, and supervision over the implementation of the rights and obligations of parties in industrial relations. The successful mediation is also part of the police’s effort to prioritise a restorative justice approach in resolving manpower issues, ensuring workers’ rights can be fulfilled without neglecting the continuity of harmonious industrial relations.
