Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) has launched a free mudik (homecoming) programme called “Presisi 2026” as part of the broader 2026 Operasi Ketupat (Operation Ketupat) series. The initiative aims to facilitate safe travel during Eid holiday exodus and return journeys with the tagline “Safe Mudik, Happy Family,” in accordance with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s directive.

The Head of Polri’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that the programme is designed to maintain security, safety, order, and traffic flow whilst reducing road accident rates during the 2026 Eid return period.

“We are preparing this Free Return Mudik Presisi 2026 programme to realise traffic safety, security, orderliness, and smoothness, as well as to reduce traffic accident numbers during the Eid return period,” Agus explained on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The programme aims to reduce the use of motorcycles and private vehicles that could contribute to congestion during the return journey period. “Through this free transport facility, the public is expected to return to their destination cities more safely and comfortably,” he noted.

The free mudik programme targets several population groups, including informal sector workers, factory labourers, low-income migrants, online motorcycle taxi drivers and their families, as well as university students.

Registration for the programme can be completed online through dedicated websites, mobile applications, or digital forms. Alternatively, members of the public may register directly at regional police headquarters (Polda), district police offices (Polres), or security posts and service centres established during the 2026 Operasi Ketupat implementation.

Socialisation of the programme will take place through various channels, including social media, banners, billboards, and community groups. Educational materials will include traffic safety messages with the “Safe Mudik Happy Family” slogan, registration procedures, and departure schedules.

On the day of departure, participants must arrive at least three hours before their scheduled journey time for re-registration and identity verification. Following this, passengers will board according to their assigned bus numbers and participate in a safety briefing before travel commences.

The Presisi 2026 free mudik programme uses buses with a capacity of approximately 50 passengers. Travel routes are focused on priority return journey corridors tailored to the specific conditions of each regional police jurisdiction.
