Police investigate bag containing tramadol found in East Jakarta
Police are investigating a bag containing tramadol and other dangerous prescription drugs discovered by children playing in the Pinang Ranti area of East Jakarta. ‘We have inspected the crime scene with Bimas, Intel Duty, Reskrim, and Buser teams. The bag and its contents have been secured at the police station, and the owner is still under investigation,’ said Makasar Police Station Chief Kompol Sumardi on Thursday. Sumardi stated the black bag was found lying in front of an alley in Pinang Ranti. The children who found the bag handed it over to local residents. ‘The children handed it to local women, who opened it in front of neighbours to find Group G drugs, then reported it to the police station,’ Sumardi said. Sumardi added that police immediately visited the discovery site after receiving the report to inspect the crime scene. Officers from Bhabinkamtibmas, intelligence, and the Reskrim team were deployed for initial investigations. ‘We have inspected the crime scene with Bimas, Intel Duty, Reskrim, and Buser teams. The bag and contents have been secured at the police station, and the owner remains under investigation,’ Sumardi explained. The discovery went viral on social media after being posted by Instagram account @info_pinang_ranti. The circulating video showed local women inspecting the black bag. Upon opening, the bag was found to contain several drugs suspected to be Group G prescription medications, including tramadol. Group G drugs, including tramadol, are strictly controlled prescription medications requiring a doctor’s prescription. ‘Upon opening, tramadol and other medications were found. These drugs require a doctor’s prescription and are tightly regulated,’ the Instagram post stated. Local residents expressed concern over the drugs being found in a residential area, where they could be misused, especially since children discovered the bag while playing nearby. Police are currently investigating the bag’s origin and who may have deliberately left the drugs in Pinang Ranti. Authorities are also probing potential illegal drug distribution in the area. Makasar Police Station urged the public to report any suspicious items or activities related to illicit drug use in their vicinity.
