Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have implemented traffic engineering measures due to flooding under the Ring Road Puri Kembangan flyover in West Jakarta, which has triggered severe congestion in the area on Tuesday. Deputy Head of Traffic Police for West Jakarta Police Resort, AKP Muhammad Ilham, stated that the traffic engineering involves temporarily closing vehicle access from the Jakarta-Tangerang Toll Road heading towards the Ring Road Puri. “Those coming from the toll in the direction of Jakarta-Tangerang towards the Ring Road are closed first to reduce the density at the flood location,” Ilham said in Jakarta on Tuesday. Meanwhile, traffic flow from other routes remains monitored as normal, though moving slowly due to the queuing effect of vehicles around the inundation. As part of the response efforts, a joint team of approximately 50 personnel has been deployed to regulate traffic while also assisting with flood handling. “We have coordinated, with about 20 personnel from us, and the total joint team possibly more than 50 personnel from various agencies,” Ilham explained. In addition to traffic management, inundation handling is being carried out through water suction by the West Jakarta Water Resources Sub-District Office (Sudin SDA). ANTARA’s observation at the location at 11:00 WIB showed traffic flow from Cengkareng towards Kembangan and vice versa as jammed to densely crawling. Flooding up to 60-80 centimetres has caused several vehicles to be stuck under the toll flyover. Moreover, hundreds of motorcycles that recklessly tried to pass through the flood ended up stalling and piling up on the side of the Outer Ring Road towards Cengkareng. This condition has made traffic on Kembangan Raya Road and Outer Ring Road severely congested. The congestion was observed as dense starting from 09:00 WIB, when vehicle volume increased amid the road inundation. Inevitably, vehicle horns blared at each other. Bumps between vehicles and arguments among drivers were unavoidable. This was caused by many two-wheeled vehicles attempting to turn back to find alternative routes amid the densely crawling traffic.
