Police Implement "One Way" Traffic System on Kalimalang Route in Bekasi to Prevent Mudik Congestion
BEKASI – Bekasi Metro Police have prepared several strategies to alleviate potential congestion during the 2026 Ketupat Jaya Operation to anticipate a surge in vehicle numbers during the Lebaran homecoming rush.
One key measure being implemented is traffic engineering in the form of a one-way traffic system on the Kalimalang route heading towards Bekasi City.
“For Kalimalang coming from East Jakarta and passing through to Bekasi City, we have implemented a one-way system. Specifically at Caman intersection,” said Head of Traffic Unit (Kasat Lantas) of Bekasi Metro Police Gefri Agitia when confirmed on Monday (16 March 2026).
Gefri explained that the one-way system is being implemented in the Sumber Artha area, which marks the boundary between Bekasi City and East Jakarta.
At this point, vehicle traffic that normally uses two lanes will be regulated into a single lane during the operation period.
According to Gefri, the Sumber Artha area frequently becomes a traffic congestion point, particularly during the mudik season.
“Usually homebound travellers passing through Kalimalang experience congestion at several intersections, especially in the Sumber Artha area because many vehicles are changing direction,” he explained.
With the implementation of the one-way system, vehicle traffic on the Kalimalang route is expected to flow more smoothly, thus minimising the potential for congestion.
According to him, the policy is being implemented to reduce vehicle density heading towards the Pantura route and other eastern areas.
Monitoring by journalists at the location showed that vehicle traffic on the Kalimalang mudik route, specifically at the BCP intersection, KH Noer Ali Road, South Bekasi District, remained slow-moving on Monday morning.
Vehicles from East Jakarta heading towards M Hasibuan Road Bekasi or Ahmad Yani Road Bekasi were still flowing normally without long queues.
This condition indicates that the increase in homebound traveller vehicle volume has not occurred significantly during the morning hours.
In addition to implementing traffic engineering, police are also preparing five posts for services and security during the Lebaran homecoming period, with two serving as rest stops for mudik travellers.
