JAKARTA — The Metro Jaya Regional Police remain investigating the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), which occurred in the Salemba area of Jakarta.

Police have yet to definitively identify the vehicle registration number of the perpetrator, as approximately 260 possible combinations of vehicle registration numbers have been captured on surveillance cameras.

Iman Imanudin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, stated that authorities are still pursuing various possibilities from the vehicle numbers captured on CCTV cameras around the incident location. “For the registration number, we are still investigating because there are approximately 260 possibilities from the numbers that appeared; we are still analysing,” Iman said during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday, 16 March 2026.

“When we have definitively found all the evidence pointing to an individual’s actions, we will designate that person as a suspect and inform the public accordingly,” he added.

In addition to tracing the vehicle number, investigators are also continuing to examine CCTV footage showing two individuals suspected of being directly involved in the acid attack. “We are still examining the two individuals caught on CCTV,” Iman said.

The total duration of footage being analysed reaches 10,320 minutes. “There are 2,610 images in video format with a duration of 10,320 minutes, so it will take several days to analyse the digital CCTV footage through which the perpetrators travelled,” Iman explained.

Based on initial investigation results, police suspect four individuals were involved in the incident, having allegedly tracked the victim’s movements from before the acid attack took place.

Iman said the suspected perpetrators began following Andrie from when the victim left his office at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI). “Based on surveillance from several points, the suspected perpetrators were tracked following the victim’s movements as detected by surveillance cameras from a route from South Jakarta to an initial gathering point at Merdeka Timur in front of Gambir Station,” Iman said.

After carrying out the attack, the suspected perpetrators allegedly fled in several different directions, including towards the Kalibata area, Ragunan, and the Bogor region.
