Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) has formed a joint task force to investigate the acid attack case involving KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The establishment of this multi-agency team represents a demonstration of the police’s commitment to the serious investigation of the incident.

“As a demonstration of the seriousness of the National Police in handling this case, we have currently formed a joint task force consisting of investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Police, investigators from the General Crime Directorate of Metro Jaya Police, and from the National Police Criminal Investigation Headquarters,” stated Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Director of Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The police are conducting investigations through CCTV analysis and communication channel surveillance. Kombes Iman stated that his team is examining footage from 86 surveillance camera points.

“After we obtained information and reports regarding the incident in question, we proceeded with investigative efforts by conducting analysis of CCTV footage and analysis of available communication channels,” said Iman.

“There are 86 surveillance camera points we have obtained concerning the locations where the perpetrators of this acid attack allegedly departed from and returned to,” he added.

Kombes Iman stated that 7 camera points were obtained from the electronic traffic enforcement system. The team is also gathering information about perpetrator movements from various sources including CCTV from the Transportation Agency, residential homes, and office buildings in the vicinity of the attack location.

“There are 7 camera points or CCTV footage obtained from the electronic traffic enforcement system, then there are 27 points we obtained from the Department of Communication and Information Technology, then there are 8 points we obtained from the Transportation Agency, then there are 44 CCTV points from residents, meaning residential homes. Then office buildings and other structures located along the perpetrators’ suspected route,” explained Kombes Iman.

As previously reported, Andrie Yunus was the victim of an acid attack allegedly committed by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on the evening of Thursday, 12 March. The incident occurred whilst Andrie was returning home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
