Police Force Requests Budget Increase for Community Policing Officers and Patrol Vessel Fuel
Jakarta — The Head of the Police Maintenance and Security Agency, National Police General Karyoto, requested additional budgetary support to optimise the role of the police as helpers to the public. According to Karyoto, the Bhabinkamtibmas (community policing and security personnel) ranks require increased operational budgeting. “Additional transportation facilities are needed, particularly in remote 3T regions, as well as improved operational budget support for Bhabinkamtibmas, which currently stands at approximately Rp1,430,000 per month, calculated at 22 days multiplied by Rp65,000,” said Karyoto during his presentation to Commission III of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026). Before members of parliament, he emphasised that improved communication facilities and operational support budgets for community policing officers must be increased. Additionally, he highlighted that the Samapta Bhayangkara (Police Mobile Brigade) function also requires additional animal handlers and veterinary paramedics at regional levels. He expressed the hope that increased animal handler and veterinary paramedic personnel should be supported by specialist allowances and additional animals to support field operations. “You all witnessed yesterday how hard-working police dogs are when working at disaster sites searching for victims reported missing,” he added. In the Water and Air Police Corps sector, the three-star general also requested fuel support for patrol vessels. “For the Water and Air Police Corps function, balanced fuel support is needed in line with the procurement of new patrol vessels, as well as strengthened maintenance and repair budgets for vessels to ensure the operational readiness of the fleet remains optimal,” he said. The reason, he explained, is that future community development functions will be optimised to meet the target ratio of one village or one community to one Bhabinkamtibmas officer. “However, in the short term, the focus is not only on quantity but also on improving personnel quality. As we have mentioned, we desire every police officer to truly embody the spirit of being a helper to the public,” he said.
