Police find gun that killed Ferry

PALU, Central Sulawesi: A senior police officer claimed on Tuesday that police personnel in Palu, Central Sulawesi province, had found a gun, believed to be central to the unsolved murder of prosecutor Ferry Silalahi early this year.

Spokesman for the Central Sulawesi Police, Adj. Sr. Comr. Victor D. Batara, said that the gun was seized from a man who robbed a salesman of cigarette maker PT Djarum in Sausu district, Parigi Moutong regency a few months ago.

After a ballistic test and questioning the suspect, police investigators concluded that the gun had been used to kill Ferry and rob the salesman. However, the police refused to disclose whether the man who robbed the Djarum salesman was the same person who shot Ferry. The man in question consistently denied that he had killed Ferry. -- JP
