Police Expose Distribution of 12.9 Tonnes of Expired Lamb Meat Ahead of Eid al-Fitr
Police presented evidence of expired lamb meat during a press conference at the warehouse of PT Lang Lang Buana Sejahtera in Cikupa, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Monday, 16 March 2026.
The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim Polri) has designated four suspects and seized approximately 12.9 tonnes of expired frozen lamb imported from Australia that was allegedly being circulated to traditional markets for public consumption ahead of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebrations.
The Head of the Mobile Response Unit at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Teuku Arsya Khadafi, and the Head of the First Subdivision of the Crimes Against Property Directorate at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Setyo K. Hariyatno, inspected the cold storage facilities containing the expired meat during the press conference at the warehouse.
The seizure represents a significant operation targeting the illegal distribution of unsafe food products ahead of one of Indonesia’s most important religious holidays, when demand for lamb meat traditionally increases substantially among Muslim consumers preparing for Eid celebrations.
