Metro Jaya Police are conducting forensic laboratory tests on evidence including a helmet and acid container allegedly used to splash chemical liquid on Andrie Yunus, Vice-Coordinator of KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence).

Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Director of the General Criminal Investigation Unit at Metro Jaya Police, stated that the forensic laboratory examination was being conducted to identify DNA or fingerprints left by the perpetrator.

“We are conducting forensic laboratory tests on evidence found at the crime scene, including a helmet and a container suspected of being used to hold chemical liquid,” he said during a press conference on Monday, 16 March.

“We very much hope that the forensic laboratory test results will reveal fingerprints from the perpetrator, and also DNA from the perpetrator that may have adhered to the helmet in question,” he added.

Iman further stated that investigators are still gathering additional evidence before making arrests against the perpetrators.

“To date, we have not taken any coercive measures. We continue to collect legal facts based on CCTV analysis and communication networks that we have obtained,” he said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus, Vice-Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was attacked with acid in the Central Jakarta area on Thursday, 12 March in the evening.

Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS, stated that the incident occurred after Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office, at approximately 23:00 local time.

“He was attacked with an acid splash by an unknown perpetrator, resulting in serious injuries across his entire body, particularly on both hands, face, chest, and eye area,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 13 March.

Following the incident, Yunus was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. Upon examination, Yunus sustained burns affecting 24 per cent of his body.

Dimas also revealed the characteristics of the suspected first perpetrator, who was wearing a white-blue combination shirt, dark trousers suspected to be jeans, and a black helmet.

The second perpetrator, the passenger, wore a black face covering or mask resembling a ‘buff’ that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue-coloured long trousers folded to be shorter and suspected to be made of denim.
