Police Evacuate Ill Residents Affected by Flooding in Pela Mampang, South Jakarta
Flooding struck the Pondok Karya area of Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. Police officers and other emergency personnel evacuated residents affected by the rising waters.
“We carried out evacuations of women, children, the elderly, and sick residents,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) chief Commissioner Mustofa on Friday (20 February 2026).
A total of 15 members of the Ditpolairud search-and-rescue team were deployed to handle the flooding on Jalan Pondok Karya, Pela Mampang, Mampang Prapatan, since early morning. Water levels were reported to have reached between 20 and 70 centimetres.
Officers also evacuated residents’ belongings, including motorcycles, as a precaution against submersion. In addition, personnel assisted residents needing to travel to their workplaces and those heading to Friday prayers.
Mampang Prapatan sector police likewise deployed to Pondok Karya to assist residents in need. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall in Jakarta on Thursday evening (19 February) as well as water flowing downstream from Bogor, which forms part of the upper Ciliwung River catchment.
“Mampang sector police personnel, together with supporting officers, carried out monitoring and evacuation of residents in residential areas inundated following last night’s heavy rain,” said Mampang Prapatan sector police chief Inspector Wahid Key.
In a video uploaded by the Mampang Prapatan sector police, officers could be seen deploying rubber dinghies and skiff boats to evacuate residents and their belongings to safety.
