Police Evacuate Deceased Railway Track Worker Hit by Freight Train in Batang

Batang, Central Java — The Batang District Police evacuated a railway track controller identified as AS (22) who was fatally struck by a Kalimas Cargo freight train on the Surabaya-Jakarta line at kilometre 73+3 between Ujung Negoro and Batang stations on Tuesday, 3 March.

Batang Police Resort Commander AKBP Veronika stated that the victim appeared to be repairing a loose rail bolt on track one when he failed to notice the Kalimas Cargo train passing on the same track.

“The victim was facing west on track one and saw a train passing on track two. However, at the same time, the Kalimas Cargo train also emerged from the east heading west,” she explained.

Accompanied by Tulis Police Sector Sub-Sector Commander Ipda Sri Widadi, she confirmed that the victim’s body has been transported to Kalisari Regional General Hospital in Batang for further processing.

“We urge the public and field workers to remain vigilant when working near railway tracks to prevent similar incidents,” she stated.

KAI Regional Operations Area (Daop) 4 Semarang Public Relations Manager Luqman Arif confirmed that the incident occurred at 08:30 on 3 March at kilometre 73+3 between Ujung Negoro and Batang stations.

“We express our deepest condolences and concern over this incident. The victim has been evacuated by our security unit and is currently being handled by local police,” Arif said.

He noted that Daop 4 Semarang has ensured all workplace safety procedures have been implemented.

“KAI remains committed to continuously improving workplace safety for all employees, particularly those working in the field, through strengthening operational procedures, enhanced oversight, and periodic safety briefings,” he added.
