Police Deny Patrol Car Hit Resident During Brawl in Tebet
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The police have denied that any vehicle from officers on patrol struck a resident during a brawl that occurred on Monday (13/4) night on Jalan Bukit Duri Selatan, Tebet, South Jakarta.
“Regarding the information claiming that a police vehicle hit a resident, that is not true,” said Tebet Police Chief Kompol Iwan Gunawan when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Iwan stated that they wished to clarify that the news related to a brawl between residents that took place on Monday night (13/4) on Jalan Bukit Duri Selatan, Tebet.
Based on witness statements at the scene, the victim is suspected of being struck by a thrown stone during the brawl and then falling near the patrol vehicle, causing a misunderstanding among the public.
As a result of the situation, there was an incident of stones being thrown at police service vehicles, leading to damage.
The victim has been taken to Tebet Hospital for medical treatment.
Therefore, the police urge the public not to be easily provoked by unverified information. The community is expected to work together to maintain a safe and conducive environment.
“During the brawl, Tebet Police officers who were nearby immediately arrived and successfully dispersed the brawl in a short time, namely five minutes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the parent of the victim, initialled MRAB, appreciated the police’s quick action in taking their child to the hospital for immediate treatment.
“I express my thanks to Tebet Police for taking my child to the hospital. On the way home from work, my child passed by, and during the commotion, my child was hit by a hard object on the face, affecting the nose. I thank Tebet Police and its ranks,” they said.
Based on a video upload on Instagram @tebet_info, it was alleged that a police vehicle hit a resident, prompting other residents to react spontaneously.
